Culture vs Ethics
When something is embedded into a country's culture but balances on the edge of ethics, how should we respond to it, especially as tourists?
The idea came from being told at an elephant ‘sanctuary’ in Chiang Mai, Thailand, that riding and living with elephants should be respected as it’s part of local culture.
Corporations putting the responsibility on us
To be responsible citizens, we're told we should reduce our carbon footprint, take fewer flights and shorter showers, carry tote bags and refillable water bottles, and spend all day every day making decisions and limiting ourselves, while the companies benefiting from these things are putting the responsibility for reducing our impact on us so that they don’t need to make changes and can keep profiting.

Watching urban wildlife accidentally kill themselves
Our plastic problem can be seen everywhere, even in the mouths of Bangkok’s crows.
While wandering through Lumphini Park in Bangkok, keeping an eye out for the resident monitor lizards so I could catch a glimpse of one, should it show up, while also making sure I stayed a safe distance away. I spotted a slightly intimidating but totally gorgeous glossy black crow ripping apart a piece of discarded plastic and swallowing little chunks just to taste the tiny amount of residue left behind by its previous owner.
