I’m a writer who writes with purpose. I write about topics and work with businesses that make a difference through sustainable and ethical practices.

I genuinely enjoy writing. I know this is often not the case, but the more I do it, the more I enjoy it. It’s a far cry from jobs I’ve had in the past, where I’d think, "Oh no, not another day of that."

Loving your job can seem like a far-fetched idea to many people, some wacky dream reserved for the lucky few. And I certainly consider myself fortunate. Here I am, writing about things I care about, topics that matter, and for businesses I share a vision with, helping to create a better world.

The truth is, though, it took me a while to realise this was where I needed to be. Writing wasn’t the obvious choice for me, despite always having plenty to say. Even after discovering I loved it and that I was good at it, it still took time to realise I wanted my writing to help move the world in the right direction. Figuring that out was the moment the dream stopped feeling far-fetched and started feeling possible. And now that's exactly what I do.

Hey, I'm Sinead

Nurture not nature

This is how I got into writing.

You know the typical stories we hear about the early years of a writer? The ones where they have their head in a book from age five, win their 12th short story award at age 11, and go on to have their first book published at 19.

Well...that's not my story. Not at all.

I stumbled into the world of writing in a different way. I turned to reading as an adult to calm my busy mind at night. I quickly fell in love with the escapism of a good book and couldn't get enough. The biggest problem then was deciding whether I should read all the children's books I'd missed out on or dive straight into the grown-up ones.

I settled on both.

The writing side of things was unexpected but made total sense. I've worked in marketing in one way or another since 2010. Each role helped me realise that understanding people and communicating with them in a way that resonated was my strength. That naturally led to getting involved in different types of copywriting projects.

Then, one day, I realised I could use my writing skills to help make a difference and be part of the change I want to see. To build on my years of experience, I completed a professional copywriting qualification in 2022. Since then, I've been enjoying life as a freelance copywriter while constantly honing my skills.

Writing about my experiences started before my copywriting career. I discovered my love of travelling about 11 years ago when my now-husband and I quit our jobs and set off on our first Asia trip, starting in India. We're now about 30 countries deep, staying for a month or more in many of the places we visit. During that time, I've written so much about where we've been, the people we've met, and the places we've eaten. The early years were my 'practice era'. They're hidden away for now, but one day, when I'm grey and old, I'll dig them out for a laugh.

Many of the articles I write today still begin with my travels, but they’d rarely fit into the travel section of a publication. They come from spending time in different places, observing, asking questions and soaking up different cultures. I believe seeing more of the world makes you question more. Those questions often become the stories I write.

The things that make me...me.

When I'm not writing, you'll find me soaking up the beauty of nature, improving my yoga practice, dancing away in my living room (because if I’m doing cardio, why not make it fun), or out trying new restaurants, bars and coffee shops.

Travel is one of the biggest loves of my life. It's a gift like no other, it creates memories, deepens our understanding of different cultures and builds connections. The more we experience, the easier it is to extend understanding and empathy to the people and world around us.

I take small actions in my everyday life to create a positive impact. That includes following a vegan diet, making more effort to avoid single-use plastics and fast fashion by opting for plastic-free, refillable and second-hand alternatives where I can, and supporting charities focused on environmental conservation and social justice. I also try to buy from purpose-driven companies that care about all their stakeholders.

I'm not perfect, no one is, but I try to be a little better than yesterday. Continuous growth and self-improvement is where it's at! Whether it's through yoga, meditation, journaling, or simply practising gratitude.

Of course, working in a field that exposes me to the harsh realities of our world is not always rainbows and butterflies. That's why I prioritise self-care and mental wellness; I want to be able to face the challenges head-on with resilience and grace.
